Fairy Tale locations In Connecticut!
Gillette Castle
East Haddam
Gillette Castle was built by William Gillette in the early 1900’s. The beautiful castle was built with stone from Connecticut and looks out over the Connecticut river. The sunsets here are perfect for photography as the sun spills over the river and across the castle, giving it a transportive feel to another relm.
Devil’s Hopyard
East Haddam
There are many beautiful hidden waterfalls in Connecticut, but Devil’s Hopyard takes the cake! It can however be a bit busy, so if you’re looking to take photos at the waterfall I recommend going in the morning on a week day. People love to come and picnic and even swim at the bottom of the falls. Perfect for some mermaid lagoon photos after a dry spell in summer, when the water is a little calmer and clear. If you’re up for a hike, their are beautiful trails throughout the woods. If you drive past the falls you will find another parking area with a covered bridge. Follow the trails a little ways to a gorgeous opening with tall trees. This area of the forest looks like something out of the Lord of the Rings!
Harkness Memorial State Park
Waterford
This park is free to Connecticut residence and is one of my favorite photography places in the world! If you want to spend a day exploring, this is the perfect spot. Every single corner of this estate is like a door to a new world.
The mansion is surrounded by beautiful botanical gardens and a vast ocean view. The ivy growing along all the structures makes everything look alive year round. You’ll find fountains, iron gates, and a hidden pond in the gardens. one of my favorite places is a huge old tree. In the spring it’s surrounded by daffodils.
On hot days the park is packed with people flying kites and lounging on the beach.
